Magnifique exemplaire en grand papier, bien complet, du plus bel ouvrage sur les fruits jamais publié. La même série avait déjà paru en 1835 comme " Traité des Arbres Fruitiers, par Duhamel du Monceau", illustrée par Poiteau et Turpin. Après la mort de ce dernier, Poiteau supprima son nom, et republia leur travail, avec une introduction sur l'historique de la pomologie. Great Flower books, p.55. Nissen BBI, 1554.

Splendida edizione del più bel libro di piante da frutto mai apparso. Quest'opera rappresenta il momento più alto dell'incisione a retino in Francia. Le 420 tavole, rifinite a mano ed acquarellate da Poiteau e Turpin, apparvero per la prima volta nell'opera di Duhamel du Monceau "Traité des arbres fruitiers", pubblicata in 72 parti, dal 1807 al 1835.

Dopo la morte di Turpin nel 1840, Poiteau divenne l'unico autore dell'opera e cancellò il nome di Turpin da quasi tutte le tavole, eccetto che da 10. Cambiò la distribuzione del testo e delle tavole, dando così all'opera un ordine più sistematico. Il primo volume è dedicato a: mandorle, pesche, albicocche e prugne; il secondo al: cedro, uva, ciliegie, fragole, lamponi: il terzo a: uva spina, ribes, pere (oltre 100 diverse qualità); il quarto a: mele, noccioline, fichi e avocado.

La "Pomologie Française" fu pubblicata da Langlois, maestro dell'incisione a colori. Le tavole di questo capolavoro, furono realizzate da una squadra di 20 incisori. Splendido esemplare in carta grande, in perfetto stato di conservazione, di questa rarissima opera dedicata agli alberi da frutto.

This work represents the apogee of French stipple-engraved colour printing achieved by Redouté and his pupils. The plates first appeared accompanying Antoine Poiteau and Pierre Jean Francois Turpin's edition edition of Duhamel du Monceau's Traité des arbes fruitiers, published in 72 parts, 1807-1935.

After Turpin's death in 1840 Poiteau, who was the sole author of the test, took control of the plates according to the groups of fruit, whereas the 1807-1835 edition was without systematic arrangement. The first volume is devoted to almonds, peaches, apricots and plums; the second to citrus fruit, grapes, cherries, strawberries, raspberries, etc.; the third to gooseberries, currants and pears (over 100 varieties); and the fourth to apples, hazelnuts, walnuts, figs and even avocados.

Poiteau and Turpin were both outstanding botanical artists in the 'Redouté' style, and utilised the techniques of colour-printing Redouté had devised. Langlois, the great master of colour printing who supervised much of Redouté's best work, published the Pomologie francaise. A team of over twenty engravers worked on the plates.
